The internet has
brought convenience to people’s lives. With regards to the Employee Provident
Fund one of the benefits technology has introduced is allowing for checking of
the EPF balance remotely without having to present yourself to the local branch
office. And besides the Employee Provident Fund balance you can also get a
statement detailing the most recent transactions including transfer of funds in
and out of the account, advances and so on. The only thing you need to have to
be able to check you EPF balance over the internet is the account number of
your Provident Fund Account which is usually indicated on your payslip.
Step
by step process
1.
Have
the account number of your Provident Fund ready. It usually looks something
like this: DL/87531/9876543. If it’s not shown on the payslip your human
resources department can help you out.
2.
Visit
the Employee Provident Fund Organisation Website http://www.epfindia.com/site_en/KYEPFB.php.
3.
Once
the website has loaded look for the link labelled ‘Member Balance Information’.
When you click on it you will be asked to select your state. After selecting
the state you will be asked to choose the EPFO office which is closest to you
or from which you would like to get the services. For instance if you select
the state of Delhi you will have to choose from among three regional offices –
Laxmi Nagar, Delhi North or Delhi South. So go ahead and choose the EPFO office
that’s nearest to you.
4.
As
shown above the starting two boxes are already filled depending on the EPFO office and the state you chose. But in the third text box you will be required
to key in the Establishment Code. This is basically your employer’s Provident
Fund code and it never exceeds seven digits.
5.
In
the fourth text box key in the extension code. The extension code never exceeds
three characters. But if you don't have the extension code or it doesn’t exist
in your case you should leave the tex tbox blank.
6.
In
the fifth text box you will put down the Provident Fund account number which
should not exceed seven digits.
Example
For purposes of
clarity below is an illustrative example.
Take the case of an
employee number whose Provident Fund number as it appears on their payslip is DL/8753106/9876543.
They will need to enter their details as follows:
Establishment Code –
this is the number that comes right after the first two initials. In this case
it is 8753106.
Account Number – this
is the number that comes last. In this case it is 9876543.
Note: The first two
initials indicate the state.
7.
Next
you will put down other details like your mobile phone number and your name as
it appears on your payslip.
8.
After
entering all the requisite information you will be asked for your consent or
otherwise. Click on the ‘Agree’ radio button and then submit.
After the completing
the above process successfully you should be able to receive you EPF balance on
your cell phone by way of a text message. Usually it will be the balance up to
the date indicated on the SMS and not the present time so no need to panic if
it’s less than you expected.
